Anshei Mitzvah, taught by Cantor Roslyn Barak, has been in session for over 20 years, and offers an opportunity for adults who never officially became Bar or Bat Mitzvah to finally experience this milestone event. The study of basic Hebrew reading, Shabbat prayers, and Torah and Haftarah texts prepares participants for a ceremony held as part of a Shabbat morning service. Anshei Mitzvah participants lead prayer, read Torah, instruct the congregation in the meaning and relevance of the biblical portions, and share words of inspiration. More than 150 adults have taken part in this program which is one of the most successful Congregation Emanu-El adult learning offerings

Anshei Mitzvah is open to members of Congregation Emanu-El. Students preparing for Anshei Mitzvah must take the Anshei Mitzvah class with Cantor Barak to learn the basic Hebrew necessary to participate in the Shabbat morning service.  Additional adult Jewish learning is recommended but is not mandatory.  If you have questions regarding adult Jewish learning opportunities please go to http://www.emanuelsf.org/AdultLearning.

For information concerning registration and adult learning opportunities contact Mary Jane Eisenberg (415) 751-2541, Ext.162. For questions about becoming Anshei Mitzvah contact Cantor Roslyn Barak at (415) 751-2535

PLEASE NOTE: Online registration will open by August 1, 2014.
