Shabbat Service Descriptions

New Worship Services, Effective February 1

Kabbalat Shabbat Service

5:30 pm every Friday - Join our rabbis, Cantor Barak, and our organist, Rodney Gehrke, in our majestic Main Sanctuary.

Contemporary Shabbat Service

7:00 pm every Friday - Join our rabbis, Cantorial Soloist Marsha Attie, and her ensemble for a participatory spirited Shabbat service in the intimate Martin Meyer Sanctuary. All are welcome.

For families with young children:

First Friday Family Service
6:00 pm on the first Friday of the month
This service is musical and perfect for families with children under the age of 5. Held in the Martin Meyer Sanctuary. During the school year, the service is followed by the reserve-ahead "Simchat Shabbat” dinner.

Fourth Friday SOMAnu-El Service
6:00 pm on the fourth Friday of the month
This service for families with young children is held during the school year at the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center, 515 Cortland Avenue. It is also followed by a reserve-ahead dinner, open to all. The service and dinner are not held during the summer, or in November or December.

Second Saturday Got Shabbat Service
10:15 – 11:30 am on the second Saturday of the month
This service is perfect for families with children under the age of 5.

Late Shabbat Young Adults Service

8:30 pm on the second Friday of the month
A groundbreaking Shabbat experience for young Jewish adults in their 20s and 30s, led by Rabbi Sydney Mintz, Marsha Attie, Eric Schoen, and Jonathan Ferris. It is followed by a festive oneg with refreshments. For newcomers there is a welcome reception before the service at 8:00 pm.
