PRESCHOOL 20TH ANNIVERSARY TILE MOSAIC INSTALLED AND CELEBRATED BERESHEET MOSAIC

Temple Emanu-El Preschool announces the installation of a 20th Anniversary Tile Mosaic depicting Beresheet - The Creation. The piece was created as a community art project led by Sandy Cohen-Wynn, Temple art director, with direction from artist Paul Lanier. Ms. Cohen-Wynn solicited designs based on the story of Beresheet from current and alumni preschool families. She received drawings from both children and adults that were used in designing the mosaic. The tiles were cut and designed over the course of a full year with the participation of many congregational constituencies and the mosaic was installed in January.

The installation is found on the west side staircase of the Temple between the 1st and 2nd floors. The mosaic should be viewed by starting on the 2nd floor landing near the preschool office, then descending past the first four days of Creation on the upper flight and the fifth and sixth days and Shabbat on the lower. The tiles are framed by four Torah scrolls bordered with tiles inspired by an architectural feature found on the Main Sanctuary building.

TORAH AND TACOS

We are lucky to live in a city featuring the best taquerias in the world, each neighborhood featuring its own favorite. We will gather monthly to meet at a local joint and study some Torah over tacos, burritos, and horchata.

This month we are heading out to the Castro and the "Little Castle", otherwise known as Taqueria El Castillito (136 Church st., just north of Market, across from Safeway). Spring is in full bloom so celebrate with El Castillito's famous homemade juices and smoothies. Donıt forget the super chicken quesadilla or chile relleno. Meet neighbors and new friends over Torah study and burrito indulgence. Vamos!
