GRADE 7

Grade 7 students participate in all three of the following components throughout the 7th grade year, regardless of when a student becomes Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

  • Mitzvah Corps
  • Weekday Torah
  • 3 Family Education Programs

MITZVAH CORPS
Mitzvah Corps is the community service portion of the 7th grade curriculum. Activities usually take place on Sundays. Each student is required to commit to one Mitzvah Major which spans several months, and five Mitzvah Minors selected from a variety of one-time opportunities.

WEEKDAY TORAH
Weekday Torah for grade 7 consists of two courses. In the first course, students examine the specific mitzvot they are performing in Mitzvah Corps through ancient texts and their modern implications. In course two, students learn to read and explore the meaning of additional parts of our liturgy: the Avot Ve'imahot, Aleinu, and Kaddish.

FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAMS - LIVING A JEWISH LIFE PART 2
These Family Education programs are on Wednesdays evenings from 6:15 - 7:45 pm. Every Family Education program consists of "Dinner & a Movie"; exploring issues of tzedakah, community responsibility and t'shuvah. At each program the students will share experiences from their Mitzvah Corps major and minor projects.
