"Wake me up, God; ignite my passion, fill me with outrage. Remind me that I am responsible for Your world. Don't allow me to stand idly by. Inspire me to act. Teach me to believe that I can repair some corner of this world."

Deliver Food to Seniors with Meals on Wheels
Do you wonder how some of the seniors in these neighborhoods get by on their fixed incomes?
Meals On Wheels is beginning a new program in July to deliver fresh food weekly to senior clients who can still prepare their own food but need help with getting healthy fresh food. We need volunteers with cars who can provide their own gas to deliver grocery bags of food on Wednesday mornings.
We ask for a six-month commitment, and the ability to volunteer at least two Wednesday mornings each month. We are especially interested in couples or pairs of friends who would like to deliver together. You will need to be able to pass a basic background check, and trainings will be in June. Register for Book Buddies for the Fall!
Seeking to recruit old and new Book Buddies 2010 - 2011! We seek adults who are concerned about the quality of public education in San Francisco, are troubled by the number of students who have few or no books in their homes and are bothered by the lack of support teachers are provided. The Book Buddies Program addresses all of these issues with a simple premise: we will provide books for students in public schools that do not provide them adequately.

SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE MISSION STATEMENT
The Social Justice Committee (SJC) will lead the Congregation in "repairing the world" (Tikkun Olam) through advocacy and empowerment of individuals and their communities. This SJC will develop projects allowing all congregants to participate in social justice.
There are many ways to serve the broader San Francisco community through the social justice projects of Congregation Emanu-El. In this section, you will find information about HELP: Hunger, Environment, Literacy and Poverty. We have projects that occur weekly, such as our food pantries; semi-annually, such as our collection drives for Goodwill and St. Anthony's; and annually, such as our Week of Meals in support of the San Francisco Interfaith Council's Winter Shelter program. Often, even an hour of your time can make a big difference.
We invite you to explore ways you can enrich your life and deepen your connection to Judaism and the Emanu-El community through the mitzvah of helping others.
