ANNUAL LUDWIG ALTMAN MEMORIAL CONCERT

Ludwig Altman served as the Temple's organist from 1937 to 1986. He passed away in 1990 and an annual concert is held in his memory.

Recent concerts have featured an organ recital by Charles Rus(1997), and by organist David Higgs ( 1998). The U.C. Berkeley Chorus sang "A Celebration of Psalms" which featured works by Ludwig Altman and Leonard Bernstein in 1999, and "A Little Romance" was the title of our concert in 2000, with organist Charles Rus, the Arlekin String Quartet, and pianists Robin Sutherland and Marc Shapiro, along with a vocal quartet consisting of Cantor Roslyn Barak and members of the Temple Emanu-El professional choir performing Liebeslieder Waltzes of Johannes Brahms. A production of Handel's Judas Maccabaeus, with the San Francisco State University Chorus, orchestra and soloists, was offered in December of 2001.
