BACK ON TRACK

Back on Track was founded in 1988 as an interfaith collaborative effort between Third Baptist Church and Temple Emanu-El. The unique partnership has crossed religious and cultural differences to build bridges of opportunity for K-12 students. As a non-denominational community based program, Back on Track has served over 2,000 young people from diverse multicultural populations throughout San Francisco. Students and volunteer tutors meet once a week for a two-hour session.

Back on Track's goals are to:

  • Empower K-12 students with lifelong learning skills and build confidence for successful engagement with pre-college academic coursework;
  • Facilitate a safe and nurturing student-centered environment that fosters intellectual development and personal growth for children;
  • Provide an avenue for San Francisco Bay Area volunteers to make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth;
  • Engage students in a supportive academic mentoring relationship that builds trust and friendship with adult role models; and
  • Build bridges of cross-cultural understanding through enrichment activities, field trips, and exposure to the arts.

BACK ON TRACK TUTORING PROGRAM NEEDS TUTORS

The Back on Track Tutoring Program, founded in 1987 as a cooperative effort between Third Baptist Church and Temple Emanu-El, is really, really in need of volunteer tutors. This great program helps San Francisco students K-12 who definitely need and appreciate one-on-one tutoring.

Volunteers for all academic subjects are very much welcome! You will be expertly matched with a highly motivated student, meeting at Third Baptist Church, McAllister and Pierce Streets, on a weekday afternoon or evening. Your two hour commitment will be a highlight of your week!

This is a great chance to help tikkun haolam (repair of the world). In the process, you will be building bridges between communities and getting to know some truly wonderful people. The first step to making a real difference in a young person's life, while doing a mitzvah and helping your student to get "Back on Track," is to email Regina Herbert, Membership Coordinator, at regina@ backontracksf.org or call her at (415) 346-9316 (24 hour voice mail if no one can answer). Be sure to leave your name and address.

There is also a website at www.backontracksf.org that has detailed information, with pictures and more to engage your interest. See you at Third Baptist
