DARFUR ADVOCACY

Congregation Emanu-El is a leader in San Francisco Bay Area activism to end the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Since 2003, at least 400,000 people have died, and more than 3 million (of a population of 6 million) have been displaced from their homes. Rabbi Mintz was a featured speaker at the "Darfur Day of Conscience" rally in April 2006. Our members regularly spread awareness within the community, join in political advocacy and fundraise for humanitarian aid for Darfur. Every individual's participation in this multinational grassroots movement makes a difference. If you would like to join, please send an email to tkraus@emanuelsf.org asking to be added to the Darfur advocacy list. Thank you.

DARFUR NEEDS YOU MORE THAN EVER

In March 2009, Sudan President Omar al-Bashir expelled 16 humanitarian aid agencies from Darfur. They provided appproximately half of the aid providing water, food, medical care and sanitation to 4.7 million Sudanese. Millions are at risk of imminent death from “genocide by starvation”. You can help now. It’s easy.

Three Simple Things For Darfur

1. Program 1-800-GENOCIDE (1-800-436-6243)
, the antigenocide hotline, into your cell phone. Call it once each week to contact the White House, a senator or your congressperson. Find out more at www.1800genocide.com.

2. Visit www.darfursf.org and sign up for Darfur Friday. Get an action alert each Friday; it will take less than five minutes to take the action for Darfur. You have 5 minutes each week for Darfur, don’t you?

3. Tell at least three friends or family members to do them, too!

IF YOU HAVE MORE TIME…
Send an email to info@darfursf.org and offer to volunteer or become an intern!

TENTS OF HOPE- San Francisco JCC Maccabi Games

Under the direction of Yael Frankel, athletes from all over the country, spent the first week of August, 2009, painting a tent for Darfur refugees.
