Did you know that individuals are the largest contributors of food to the San Francisco Food Bank (SFFB)? For many years, Congregation Emanu-El has partnered with the SFFB to help alleviate some of the chronic hunger that many San Franciscans deal with on a daily basis.
We are part of several food bank programs:
- The Full Plate Program which keeps barrels at our synagogue year round encouraging members to make monthly contributions.
- High Holy Day Food Drive which brings hope to nearly 150,000 San Franciscans living with the daily threat of hunger.
- Healthy Children Food Pantry- weekly distribution of food at Dr. William Cobb Elementary School that Congregation Emanu-El volunteers shop for at the SFFB every week and distribute each Tuesday to help feed over 75 low-income families.
- Holiday Food Program distributes food for holiday meals "farmers market-style" at our Dr. William Cobb Health Children Pantry. Approximately 75 families enjoy holiday meals thanks to this program.
- Annual Holiday Food Drive (formerly known as the Turkey Drive) - Congregation Emanu-El contributed over $15,000 which helped purchase over 15,000 Thanksgiving meals for those in need.
