HELP COMFORT BABIES AND CHILDREN WITH CANCER
We're knitting and crocheting blankets for babies and children with cancer at UCSF Children's Hospital.
We need knitters and welcome donations of yarn and/or money to purchase yarn.
Knitters: We're looking for proficient knitters. We offer patterns or you can use your own. You can knit anytime and anyplace at your convenience. We'll be meeting at Emanuel on Monday evenings starting in October if you'd like to join us.
Yarn: We're using soft, 100% natural fiber, machine washable yarn.
Cash donations: We welcome any amount.
To get involved or for more information, please contact Sandy Rechtschaffen at sandyr@emanuelsf.org or 751-2541, ext. 144.

THE PEACE KAWOMERA COOPERATIVE
"I brought the idea to my fellow friends, Muslims and Christians, and I said we should make a co-op selling our coffee but as well as spreading peace in the world.
They were all so happy so we called it Mirembe, which means peace, Kawomera, which means that even our coffee must be of quality. Then we made that cooperative."
JJ Keki, founder & director, Peace Kawomera Cooperative
In 2004, JJ Keki, a Jewish,Ugandan coffee farmer, asked his Jewish, Christian, and Muslim neighbors to put aside old differences and come together. These Jewish, Christian and Muslim farmers formed a cooperative to build lasting prosperity in their villages and to spread a message of peace throughout the world. They named their coffee Mirembe Kawomera, which means, "Delicious Peace" in the Luganda language. . Mirembe Kawomera Coffee is the first Fair Trade Certified(TM) Ugandan coffee to reach the U.S. market.

TEAM EMANU-EL 2008
The 2008 AIDS LifeCycle Ride for TEAM Emanu-El was a huge success. From young adults to senior citizens, and first-time riders to veterans, a strong bond was created amongst this 20 member team! We were the only team that represented a synagogue and our team had the only Rabbi, Rabbi Mintz, in the ride. We raised over $90,000 for research, treatment and care for those living with AIDS and hope to recruit an even bigger team for ALC 2009!
