TEMPLE EMANU-EL RULES GOVERNING USE OF FACILITIES
Persons reserving the Temple facilities must agree to these conditions:
- The use fee for individual rooms covers five (5) consecutive hours, not including set-up or breakdown time. The fee for room package combinations covers a total of seven (7) consecutive hours. Any extension of time beyond these needs to be pre-approved and a prorated assessment will apply. Celebrants and their service personnel may plan on arriving up to two hours prior to event. Any additional preparation time needs to be pre-approved and a prorated assessment will apply.
- Persons or organizations using the Temple facilities shall not advertise these events in newspapers, by posters or through the mails or any other medium unless such publicity is approved in advance by the Executive Director of the Temple.
- The contracted facility is to be used only by the signer of the contract, who must be present during the event, and guests.
- Music of reasonable volumes is permitted; however, the band or DJ must cease playing music at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, and 11:30 p.m. on all other nights. Out of consideration to our neighbors, loud music is not permitted in the Courtyard.
- Damage to the Temple or Temple equipment may require additional assessments. We urge your care and consideration.
- Place no decorations, signs or tags on the walls without prior agreement that no damage will result.
- Coat racks are provided; however, the Temple cannot assume responsibility for any loss. You may provide your own attendant if you so wish.
- The Temple has a list of equipment items that you may use at no additional charge; however, nothing may be removed from the premises.
- All equipment, gifts, and/or beverages that are brought in must be removed immediately following the event unless alternative arrangements have been made. In no circumstances will the congregation assume responsibility for any loss of property.
- In order to retain the goodwill of neighboring families, Temple Emanu-El requests your cooperation in entering and leaving the building in a quiet fashion.
- The serving of alcoholic beverages, if any, to persons not of legal age is prohibited.
- Because Judaism celebrates life and places great value on good health, smoking is prohibited on the Temple premises.
- M. Temple Emanu-El does not require strict adherence to dietary laws; however, there can be no pork or shellfish served in the Temple.
- For events other than life cycle celebrations, a certificate of liability insurance for $1,000,000 may be required; if so, it must be on file at least one week before the event.
- The Temple has six approved caterers for you to choose from. In the event that you wish to use a caterer not on the approved list, a catering fee of $2,000 is charged by the Temple. In addition, all caterers must show proof of: (1) a business license, (2) an insurance binder making Temple Emanu-El an additional insured and providing public liability insurance in the amount of at least $2,000,000 combined single limit of bodily injury and property damage including liquor liability and food product liability coverage, with no deductible, (3) theft, disappearance and destruction coverage of at least $50,000, (4) Workers' Compensation insurance as required by the state of California. In addition, non-approved caterers must be responsible for clearing tables and washing dishes, and leaving the kitchen in its original condition by performing the tasks as posted in the kitchen.
- All outstanding fees owed to the Temple should be received 60 days prior to your event for the date to continue to be held.
- The Courtyard is a public area and may be accessed by you and others during your event, unless it is specifically rented out. Wedding parties may use Courtyard for photographs during the two hours prior to wedding, but may not have exclusive use.
- At the designated end of your contracted time, your band or DJ must quit. If the music does not cease at that time, the Temple's maintenance agent or the Temple's hired plainclothes security officer is authorized to signal the end by speaking to the bandleader or DJ, and by dimming the lights. If the party does not end at that time, the maintenance crew is authorized to begin dismantling the set up.
- Since the Temple must remain a good neighbor, anything that causes neighborhood noise, such as generators, or anything that affects the sidewalk or street around the Temple must be pre-approved.
- Since your event will take place in a synagogue, we would appreciate your consideration in maintaining suitable decorum.
