 MUSICAL GROUPS OF EMANU-EL
Congregation Emanu-El has always taken pride in its professional choir,
consisting of some of the Bay Area's finest vocal talent. A sextet
performs each Shabbat morning, and on the High Holy Days, it is expanded
to fourteen voices. This glorious choir enhances our worship as it
presents the choral gems of our tradition, and accompanies our Cantor in
prayer.

Kol Emanu-El has just celebrated its Twelvth Anniversary. This
adult volunteer group is a dedicated and talented choir of congregants who
come together on Wednesday evenings to rehearse, and on the third Friday
of each month to sing and lead the 5:30 worship in the Martin Meyer
Sanctuary, alongside our Cantor. There are currently 20 members and we
are always seeking new voices. The choir is sought after in the community
as well, and has performed at interfaith services, concerts, and public
ceremonies (such as the 50th anniversary of the signing of the UN
Charter). This group is truly a "chavurah" as well as a musical
experience.

Shir Emanu-El meets each Sunday morning in the Rinder Chapel and is open
to children from 7 to 12 years of age. It consists of many adorable and talented children of Emanu-El, and it is also a popular
and well known choir, having just performed at the city-wide Mayor's Prayer
Breakfast in recent weeks. The first Friday of each month is set aside
for Shir Emanu-El and they lead the 5:30 service in the Martin Meyer on
that Shabbat. In January of 2000, Shir Emanu-El performed the premiere of
Michael Isaacson's new Millennium children's service "To Recreate the
World". Our congregation co-commissioned this work along with 40 other
congregations across the United States, and it was performed on the same
Shabbat in each congregation.
