Have you ever seen those people with the big name tags at Temple Emanu-El Late Shabbat services and other events?
They're not (really) socially awkward. They're temple members who volunteer to welcome you and help create programming for the Bay Area's Jewish young adults.
These volunteers make up the Temple Emanu-El Young Adult leadership committee. They work with the Rabbis and other temple staff on events or programs that help educate, involve and bring together
the community.
A lot happens every month on this community's calendar and each event depends on several dedicated volunteers. Young Adult Leadershipcommittee members serve one-year terms and are required to attend many services, meetings and events in that time.
You can volunteer to join this committee. There are a few requirements, though:
- You must be a Temple Emanu-El member.
- You must be able to show a track record of dedicated volunteerism.
- You must be available for Late Shabbat services, monthly meetings and events.
- You must be able to laugh indulgently at the bureaucratic fumbling of your fellow committee members.
- You must be able to dream big while working hard.
- And you must never stop working toward the betterment of this community. Really.
The rewards are amazing and can't be described, only experienced.
