Where Pride Dwells – A Virtual Fireside Chat
To celebrate Pride month, Congregation Emanu-El welcomes international Jewish leader and social justice activist, Rabbi Denise L. Eger in conversation with Rabbi Jason Rodich during One Shabbat with Cantor Marsha Attie. Click here to participate via Facebook Live, our preferred platform – you don't have to join Facebook to participate. For alternative access via livestream, click here. To follow along with prayers, click here for a free on-line Mishkan T'filah prayer book.
In lieu of a traditional sermon, Rabbi Rodich will engage in a “fireside chat” during the service, including discussion of Rabbi Eger’s newest book, Mishkan Ga’avah: Where Pride Dwells. This groundbreaking collection of LGBTQ prayers, poems, liturgy, and rituals is both a spiritual resource and a celebratory affirmation of Jewish diversity.
Rabbi Eger is the founding Rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami, in West Hollywood, CA. She is past president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the international organization of more than 2,300 Reform Rabbis. She served as the first openly gay or lesbian person in that position. She also was the first woman ever elected as President of the Southern California Board of Rabbis, which includes Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, and Orthodox Rabbis.

For over two years, every Sunday night Emanu-El congregants have provided dinner for the youth living at G-House (a transitional home for youth experiencing homelessness run by Larkin Street Youth Services), by bringing food and then breaking bread together. While these dinners at G-House have been cancelled due to social distancing, we still need your help supporting the youth living there.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Emanu-El volunteers are continuing to do this mitzvah by ordering a Sunday night meals (a lot of pizza!) from local restaurants and having it them delivered to G-House. These dinners are very meaningful, as each dinner we give lets the youth know that our Emanu-El community continues to care for them despite the current challenges.
We look forward to resuming these in person dinners at G-House when it is safe for all.
