Congregation Emanu-El BLOOD DRIVE
Aug 6 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Congregation Emanu-El BLOOD DRIVE

This blood drive is being conducted in collaboration with Vitalant, one of the nation’s oldest and largest transfusion medicine organizations. To schedule your appointment, please visit bloodheroes.com and use Sponsor CodeEmanu-El.

  • ADVANCE APPOINTMENTS are encouraged to help maintain social distancing and wait time.
  • All donors must bring and wear a MASK or CLOTH-BASED FACE COVERING.

Additional Steps Being Taken to Keep Donors and Staff Safe:

  • Temperatures are taken upon entry. Donors must be free of flu or cold like symptoms.
  • Donors are asked to self-defer if they traveled to a country with sustained wide spread in the past four weeks.
  • Vitalant staff follow rigorous safety and disinfection protocols.
  • Hand sanitizer and/or hand washing stations readily available.
  • Walk-ins will be accommodated only if space allows. Otherwise, a Vitalant staff can take your information to schedule another time to donate.

Due to these additional measures, your donation time may be increased. Thank you in advance for your understanding and your support. Many blood drives have been cancelled so your individual donations matter more than ever. Every donation has the power to save up to three lives! If you have more questions about donating blood, please contact: www.vitalant.org or 877-25-VITAL

The Gold(berg) Rush with Judi Leff (Day Time)
Aug 6 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Gold(Berg) Rush: History of San Francisco Jewry led by legacy Emanu-El member Judi Leff

Free program via Zoom

Thursday, August 6, 11:00am – 1:00pm PST

Judi is passionate about San Francisco Jewish history and produced the 125th Anniversary of the Jewish cemeteries in 2014. She is also a duchess in the court of Emperor Norton; and enjoys writing, directing, and performing comedy. The Gold(berg) Rush is Judi’s occasionally irreverent, educational and funny (one hopes) take on the presence and impact of Jews in 19th and early 20th century San Francisco. This talk will focus on the importance of Temple Emanu-El in the formation of the San Francisco Jewish community.

Judi Leff is a San Francisco native who worked for 17 years at Congregation Emanu-El, where she was Director of Operations and Arts and Culture. She currently teaches Current Events and Memoir Writing at the San Mateo Union High School District Active Adults Program.

Support youth experiencing homelessness with a Sunday night dinner delivery!
Aug 9 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Support youth experiencing homelessness with a Sunday night dinner delivery!

For over two years, every Sunday night Emanu-El congregants have provided dinner for the youth living at G-House (a transitional home for youth experiencing homelessness run by Larkin Street Youth Services), by bringing food and then breaking bread together. While these dinners at G-House have been cancelled due to social distancing, we still need your help supporting the youth living there.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Emanu-El volunteers are continuing to do this mitzvah by ordering a Sunday night meals (a lot of pizza!) from local restaurants and having it them delivered to G-House. These dinners are very meaningful, as each dinner we give lets the youth know that our Emanu-El community continues to care for them despite the current challenges.

We look forward to resuming these in person dinners at G-House when it is safe for all.
Please sign up here to sponsor a Sunday evening dinner and for more details!
