Want to give back? Emanu-El is thrilled to be partnering with Repair the World to present this 5-part service learning series for a group of 20s & 30s to engage in deep conversations around homelessness, racism, food justice, and more – and of course do service at organizations making a difference in our community.
Participants of this program are expected to join all 4 service projects as well as an orientation and closing. Registration is for the full 5-part series; at this time you cannot register for single days. This series will take place on the following dates, please mark them in your calendar:
Oct 17, 1pm-3pm: Orientation
Oct 24, 1pm-3pm: Service project # 1
Oct 31, 1pm-3pm: Service project # 2
Nov 7, 1pm-3pm: Service project # 3
Nov 14, 1pm-5pm: Service project #4 and closing
Participants will be asked to contribute between $36-72 based on their ability to pay. If you feel that paying this amount will significantly impact your finances, please contact lshapir[email protected]. Payment details to be shared upon registration.
Applications due by October 1 at 5pm.

Learn with our Charles Michael Scholar in Residence, Judy Batalion, as she dives deeper into her latest book, is the New York Times bestseller, author of the highly-acclaimed The Light Of Days: The Untold Story of Women Resistance Fighters in Hitler’s Ghettos, published by William Morrow in April 2021.
This will be a short Q&A with media presentation in the Martin Meyer Sanctuary immediately follow One Shabbat Service.

The Light Of Days has been published in a young readers’ edition, will be translated into 19 languages, and has been optioned by Steven Spielberg for a major motion picture for which Judy is co-writing the screenplay. Judy is also the author of White Walls: A Memoir About Motherhood, Daughterhood and the Mess in Between, optioned by Warner Brothers, and her essays have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Forward, Vogue, and many other publications. Judy has a BA in the History of Science from Harvard, and a PhD in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute, University of London, and has worked as a museum curator and university lecturer. Born in Montreal, where she grew up speaking English, French, Hebrew, and Yiddish, she lives in New York with her husband and three children. To learn more, visit judybatalion.com.
