Israel’s Weizmann Institute Satellite: ULTRASAT
Nov 18 @ 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Imagine a satellite (ULTRASAT) weighing less than 500 pounds—half as much as a horse–that will revolutionize our view and understanding of the Universe.

Because of rapid developments in technology and know-how from a small place (the Weizmann Institute of Science), in a small country (Israel), a never-before-possible worldwide impact is now possible at a modest price and in a short time frame.

When combined with ground-based telescopes in Israel’s Negev Desert and connections to earth’s most sophisticated telescopes and scientific partners, Weizmann scientists will be able to unlock the mysteries of the Universe: gravitational waves—the discovery of which may be the single most important development since Galileo’s telescope– supernovas, mutant planets, and white dwarfs and help find the most likely hospitable and habitable planets for intelligent life.

Join us on November 18, to hear more from the scientists and technicians who make this all possible in just three short years. Then, join us in 2024 at mission control at the Weizmann Institute, where we’ll have a front-row seat when Ultrasat scans the heavens in real-time to alert us and the global scientific community that the show is about to begin.

What started 11 years ago with a few people tossing around a football has turned into a full-fledged family event on Thanksgiving morning. WHERE: Golden Gate Park, Big Rec Field, near 7th and Lincoln

WHAT IF I'M HUNGRY?: Doughnuts, coffee, beer.

RSVP if you're in. Invite more friendsCome for an hour if that's all you can do, show up late, leave early – it's all about the fun, betting who gets hurt first and whether Dave Hershenson is still wearing the same cleats.

There's no better way to start this day than on the field having some fun together. See you all there!
