MLK Commemoration Sunday Service

Emanu-El joins Third Baptist for Sunday services

10:00 am Service

We are so grateful to be back in person with Third Baptist Church and Emanu-El clergy on Sunday, January 15th! The MLK Pulpit Exchange is an integral part of our community partnership with Third Baptist Church, and we look forward to being a part of the Sunday Service each year.

Join us at the Church for an impactful morning service led by Rabbi Jonathan Singer with music by Cantor Marsha Attie and greetings from Congregation Emanu-El President Ellen Fleishhacker, followed by luncheon with our partners at Third Baptist. With those trying to pull all of us apart, this is a chance to show that we are standing together. We can't wait to see you there!

Emanu-El joins SF Unity Coalition for the MLK March

11:00 AM

This 1.5-mile march starts at SF's Caltrain Station (4th and King) and crosses over the Lefty O'Doul Bridge near Oracle Park. It then stops in the Willie Mays Plaza to commemorate the Edmunds Pettus Bridge crossing of the famous Selma-to-Montgomery, Alabama march, a symbol of violence and victory during the civil rights era.

After stopping for a few minutes, the march will continue north to the Yerba Buena Gardens. This is where you can enjoy several other events that will take place throughout the day.

  • Full vaccination status is required for those eligible when participating in our programs (including booster for those eligible). Consistent with city, state, CDC and other public health authority guidance, COVID-19 vaccines are the most important and effective tool in preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe illness and death.
  • Masking is optional at all services and events taking place inside Emanu-El or for outdoor events, including in the courtyard.
  • Although masks are not required, we understand that many people will continue to mask for a variety of reasons. We fully support those who choose to mask and invite all in our community to act in a spirit of non-judgmental kindness as we navigate this landscape together.
  • Please review our COVID-19 on-site event protocols.
  • We, along with our COVID-19 Advisory Team, will continue to monitor case rates in San Francisco and other important factors and respond to the changing circumstances accordingly.
