BROTHER MOSES SMOTE THE WATER
KLEZMATICS WITH SPECIAL GUEST JOSHUA NELSON
Sunday, March 25 | 5:00 pm | Main Sanctuary | Congregation Emanu-El
World-renowned Grammy-winning superstars of the Klezmer world, the Klezmatics celebrate their 30th anniversary at Congregation Emanu-El as they bring us their music steeped in spiritualism and Eastern European tradition while incorporating themes of social justice.
In this concert, they join forces with Joshua Nelson, the Prince of Kosher Gospel, to explore the complexity of Jewish identity, Black identity, and humankind. Age-old Hebrew Passover songs will be melded with the African soul tradition, echoing the great stylings of Mahalia Jackson.
The Third Baptist United Voices Choir led by Minister of Music Gregory Cole will join in this joyous celebration of freedom and fellowship. This exciting, soul-stirring concert is not to be missed and perfect for the whole family.
Our wonderful community partners include Black Jewish Unity Council, Bechol Lashon, Jewish Community Relations Council, Klez California, Museum of the African Diaspora, Beth Eden Baptist Church Choir, and United Voices Third Baptist Church.
Generous support for this series comes from the Ingrid D. Tauber Fund.
We are grateful to Bob Tandler and Vallie Benesch for their in-kind support for this project.
