Antisemitism & Israel Discussion Groups

Dear Emanu-El Community,

May is Jewish American Heritage Month, and we will soon commemorate Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) and celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day). The tensions we are all holding as we approach Israel’s 76th year of independence are more sensitive than ever as we witness surging antisemitism around the world and within our communities.

In honor of Jewish American Heritage Month, we are launching a series of discussion groups on various topics concerning Israel and Jewry in the diaspora. The first two sessions to be held over the next two weeks will focus on antisemitism and the Jewish experience in the American education system, with more discussions to come. If you are interested in either topic, please register below as capacity is limited. We look forward to hearing from all voices in the Emanu-El community, and we encourage you to reach out to us if you have any questions about this initiative.

L’Shalom,
The Emanu-El Clergy

Discussions for 11th and 12th graders and their parents
Wednesday, May 22 at 6:00 pm | at Temple Emanu-El

There is a lot to navigate when journeying off to college; yet, in this current climate, we all have worries we never thought we would be considering. We will have separate clergy and educator-led discussion groups for parents and for teens to share their thoughts, feelings, and simply have a space to be heard.  All viewpoints and perspectives are welcome – this will be an open conversation and space will be held for sharing and processing together.

During this time block, Ariana Estoque and Cantor Marsha Attie will lead a session geared toward the teens in attendance while Rabbi Sarah Parris (Columbia University Hillel Senior Jewish Educator, 2017-19) holds a discussion oriented toward parents of college-ready students.

We are here to support each other at this difficult and unprecedented time. We look forward to digging into these important conversations with you.

Dinner will be served.
