Israel at a Crossroad: Ami Ayalon & Liat Schlesinger of Molad
Wednesday, November 14, 7:00 – 9:00pm
Martin Meyer Sanctuary
In the presentation Ami Ayalon, the former head of the Shin Bet and co-founder of Blue White Future and Liat Schlesinger, executive director of Molad, will share their experience and analysis from joint work on consolidating and revitalizing the progressive community. The Israeli center-left camp, they argue, can return to dominance in the public arena and ultimately win in the ballot box. Today, this task is not only a political goal, but also an existential necessity.
Ami Ayalon is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Haifa Research Center for Maritime & Strategy. He is a senior research fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute and serves as the chairman of AKIM Israel (the National Association for the children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities). Ayalon is one of the founders of Blue White Future (“BWF”), a non-partisan political movement, committed to securing the future of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state through facilitating an inclusive discourse to promote a two state solution. Admiral (ret.) Ayalon is a former Director of Israel Security Agency (the Shin Bet) and a former commander of Israel's Navy. He has served as a cabinet minister and a member of the Knesset. Along with Sari Nusseibeh, he has headed the People's Voice peace initiative in 2002.
Liat Schlesinger is the executive director of Molad. Before that, she was head of investigative research at Molad. Prior to joining Molad, Liat was an investigative journalist at Ma'ariv, an Israeli daily. In 2013 she was awarded the Pratt Prize for Environmental Journalism. She holds an M.A. in International Community Development from the Hebrew University.
