Ethiopian Jews: Our Overlooked Brethren
Ethiopian Jews: Our Overlooked Brethren – Helping To Bring Those Remaining, Home to Zion
Join us to hear Shlomo Motta, a former shepherd who made aliyah, served in the IDF and became Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, share his personal account of his journey to Israel via Operation Moses. We will discuss the history of Ethiopian Jews and the current status of roughly 150 thousand Ethiopian Jews in Israel today, as well as the efforts to bring the remaining 12 thousand Jews stranded in Ethiopia home to Zion.
The event will include a program live from the Jewish compound in Gondar, which is the center of activity for approximately 10,000 Jews. The program will be led by Neguise Alemu, an Ethiopian Israeli who has spent the last 4 years away from his family in order to run the lifesaving programs. Negusie will describe the situation of the community which is currently afflicted by Covid, famine, and civil war, which recently was only 50 miles from Gondar.
