Karen Kohler emigrated from Germany to grow up on Long Island and spend her early adulthood in Texas, where in 2000 she traded a top management position at Whole Foods Market national HQ for the louche life of a nightclub singer in New York City. Today she is the acknowledged doyenne of European cabaret arts in New York as singer, founder of the ensemble Kabarett Kollektif, director, historian and lecturer. As a solo artist, Karen has performed in cabarets, concert halls, festivals, clubs, consulates and embassies worldwide, crossbreeding a range of decadent theatrical and musical styles – from jazz and Delta blues to classical, rock-folk and cabaret – in six languages. Her performances have earned her all major New York cabaret awards including Nightlife, BroadwayWorld, MAC and the Backstage Bistro. She coaches performance and creativity, guiding all kinds of artists in fulfilling their calling, and lectures at the university level on the European roots of small stage performance. In 2007, she and husband Robert MacLean established the Peter E. Kohler Scholarship in Cabaret Performance at Long Island University. A decade later it is still the only collegiate scholarship in the cabaret arts.
Noa Levy is a unique, charismatic singer and performer. With a beautiful, rounded voice and magnetic stage presence, Noa sings with soul across genres – rock, jazz, cabaret, musicals and pop. Noa enjoys complementing the band’s vital sounds, and audiences love her honest, energetic performance. Noa’s passion for the stage was sparked at the young age of 10 when acting out scenes from children’s books at local talent shows. Noa discovered her singing voice at 12 when she was blown away listening to Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’ on a cassette tape given by her father – and she’s been singing ever since. She pursued her love for music and theater in England at the London School of Musical Theatre, and later concentrated on her music studies at Rimon School of Music. For Noa, music is life – she gives every performance her all and apologizes for nothing. Her resonating voice rings true with pure devotion, and her raw, powerful stage presence is sensual and authentic.
Pianist/Arranger/Conductor/SingerSongwriter, Tracy Stark is a 9-time MAC Award winner (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs), in the categories of Music Director, Song of the Year, and Piano Bar Entertainer. She is also a Bistro Award winner for Musical Direction, and winner of Cabaret Hotline’s Songwriter of the Year Award. Tracy has worked with Sarah Dash (Labelle), Randy Jones (Village People), Lesley Gore, Phoebe Snow, Karen Black, Barb Jungr, Brenda Braxton, Eric Millegan (Bones), Tonya Pinkins, and hundreds of other rock, jazz, and broadway vocalists. She stays busy creating and music directing 75-100 different shows per year. Tracy is thrilled to be back in San Francisco, to musically celebrate her Jewish heritage, with Karen and Noa.
Asaf Ophir has played woodwinds in Israeli musicals on such distinguished stages as Habima Theatre, the Cameri Theatre of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem Theatre, and Haifa Theatre. Hailed for his passionate and versatile tone, Ophir moved to the United States in 2014, where he continues to perform a blend of classical, ethnic, and jazz music around the Bay Area. The San Francisco Chronicle writes: "Asaf Ophir gives the clarinet the timbre of a trumpet, then a violin, then a raspy scream. In one climactic moment, seizing center stage, he scores a climb in pitch and volume so perfectly that the instrument’s wail almost becomes too plaintive and beautiful to bear."
