L’CHAIM: A Taste of Israeli Wines

Thursday, February 18, 6:30pm

Zoom event with Sommelier, Evan Hufford

Registration Required by February 11 to obtain wines for pick up at Congregation Emanu-El

$65 per member, which includes a wine flight of 3 whites and 3 reds for the tasting

We are delighted to be joined by Evan Hufford, an experienced sommelier for many Michelin starred restaurants. Evan has curated several fabulous examples of Israel’s finest wines which we will drink together and discuss at this event. Rabbi Jonathan will also discuss the significance of wine in Jewish ritual and tradition, as well as the process of making wine kosher. We hope you join us for this wonderful event. Prior to the event, you will be able to pick up your flight (6 – 4oz bottles) of wines from the Temple; contact free, the week of the event (starting February 16th). To prepare, please watch the documentary, Somm, prior to the event. It can be found on Netflix, Youtube, and Amazon video. This fabulous documentary features the master sommelier competition.

Evan Hufford served as the opening Wine Director at SingleThread Farms in Healdsburg, and was a driving force in many facets as they attained 3 Michelin stars in a record two years. Prior to that, Evan's career began at the Native American owned and inspired Kai Restaurant in Phoenix, where he was instrumental in the restaurant attaining Forbes 5 Stars. Continuing his wine studies in Las Vegas and the Bay Area, Evan served as Sommelier at several Michelin starred restaurants and helped develop multiple Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning wine lists, including Joël Robuchon in Las Vegas, and as Head Sommelier and Restaurant Director at Saison in San Francisco. Evan is an Advanced Sommelier, French Wine Scholar, and California Wine Appellation Specialist, and teaches part-time at the San Francisco Wine School.

This event is brought to you by Emanu-El's Israel Action Committee.
