Raising a Jewish Mensch – A Scaffolding for Independence and Responsibility taught by Taube Scholar, Senior Rabbi Emeritus Stephen Pearce
Tuesdays, October 22, 29, November 5, 2019—6:30-8:30pm
Utilizing both rabbinic education and a doctorate in psychology, Rabbi Pearce will engage parents by drawing on Jewish wisdom and psychological insights to guide them in raising their children.
This three-week course will focus on mitzvoth, the Jewish action standards of kehilah—community; sh’lom bayit domestic tranquility that nurtures a peaceful home; hach’nasat orchim—hospitality to strangers; tzedakah—righteous giving; Talmud Torah—Jewish learning; bikur holim—visiting the sick; g’milut hasidim—acts of kindness; neemanut—faithfulness; chesed—benevolent goodness; tikkun olam—perfecting a broken world; and teshuvah—forgiveness. In addition, classes will also focus on discussing God, prayer, self-esteem, coping skills, dealing with disappointment, encouraging independence as well as over and under parenting.
