A Journey Through the Threads That Weave Israeli Cuisine Together
THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT
Israel is a melting pot interwinding different nationalities and cultures. It’s a place fusing East and West, resulting in the most unique and delicious dishes.
Join us for a Shabbat dinner in the Sukkah with noted Israeli Chef Aliza Grayevsky Somekh. Growing up in Jerusalem, Sukkot was always Aliza’s favorite holiday. Living in an apartment building, all the families shared one sukkah, showing up for dinner with pots full of food to share, many with unfamiliar flavors. Given that nearly every family’s roots were in different places, such as: Morocco, Yemen, Tunisia, Greece, Turkey, Hungary and Poland. It was a mishmash of cultures and tastes. Aliza and her mother would walk around with spoons, tasting every dish, and later trying to recreate what they had eaten, at home.
Come join Aliza, following her dvar at the 6:00pm service, as she cooks some of her favorite dishes from that time. Enjoy this festive meal in the sukkah, along with an Israel wine pairing.
$30.00 for adults; $18.00 for children
Registration required.
Aliza Grayevsky Somekh of Bishulim SF is an eighth generation Jerusalemite. Raised in the kitchens of Jerusalem, she grew up cooking and eating everything the city’s streets and markets had to offer. That makes her intimately familiar with Jerusalem’s culinary collision of flavors and cultures. Working here with the abundance of quality produce of California, Aliza brings to her cooking the “best of all worlds”.
