Tour the Tenderloin with Del Seymour
Join Rabbi Bauer and your Emanu-El community for a unique tour of San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, led by Del Seymour, the neighborhood’s unofficial Mayor. Del Seymour will take you on a journey of discovery, revealing the true nature of a much-maligned, often avoided and almost always overlooked neighborhood and its community, which includes some of San Francisco’s most vulnerable residents. The tour plus Q&A will take 90 minutes, followed by an outdoor pizza dinner with Rabbi Bauer (exact location TBD) to discuss our experiences and how we can turn what we’ve learned into action benefitting the city’s unhoused population. This opportunity is being sponsored by the Tzedek Council. This event is limited to two people per household.
A veteran and compassionate neighbor, Del Seymour has been a member of the Tenderloin community for the past 30 years. He is a leader in the neighborhood, working closely with Glide Memorial Church, St. Antony’s, and Swords to Plowshares. He is also co-chair of San Francisco's Local Homeless Coordinating Board and has an appointed position with the St.Francis TL HIP Board. This whole endeavor began eight years ago when Del founded Tenderloin Walking Tours in order to “present the Tenderloin in a favorable setting.” In 2015, he founded Code Tenderloin to address the economic inequality he saw in his beloved neighborhood.
